Seattle, WA - July 18-22

Bethany bids me adieu.
I actually wrote this whole page once and deleted it. I left Chicago early the morning of the 18th for O'Hare. A long trudge to the train, a quick ride to the airport, a long wait on the tarmack, and I'm on my way. For the first part of the trip, my reading material was The Cold Six Thousand by James Ellroy, one of my favorite writers. The is the much-anticipated followup to his mind-bogglingly great novel American Tabloid. A great read to be sure, and the flight passed quickly.

Frustrated Northwesterners wish they had rocks to throw instead of latte.
Upon arriving in Seattle, I made my way downstairs to the people mover. Turns out I was in this terminal which is totally isolated from the rest of the airport except by people mover, and the people mover wasn't running. There was a very large crowd waiting and after ten or fifteen minutes, it became quite obvious that the people mover was not running. Soon an airport employee appeared to let us know that the people mover was closed because of a "security breach" at the main terminal. Now in light of recent events this doesn't seem as exciting as it did at the time, but at the time it was pretty exciting. I rushed upstairs to call my parents to see if they could turn on the TV and find out what was up. Alas, they were not there. I made my way back downstairs to settle in with my book, and as I did people began to head back upstairs to wait. Soon the place was empty and a people mover appeared. Sweet empty people mover.

Get the baggage, call the rental car place, off to Burien to pick it up, quick check of the maps, and I'm on my way to Port Angeles.
