Seattle, WA - July 18-22

Welcome To Seattle
I have visited my mom in Port Angeles several times, but usually I fly. This was my first time making the drive. Well, I have to say, never again will I take that flight. Its a gorgeous drive, very soothing, with wonderful ferry rides.

First part of the trip was the drive from Burien into downtown Seattle where I needed to catch a ferry to Brainbridge Island. When I first saw the Seattle skyline in front of me it was a pretty good feeling. My grandparents used to live here, and while I visited many times while growing up I hadn't been into the city proper in about ten years.

Ferries Rule.
So I drove downtown, past Safeco Field and Husky Stadium, to the ferry terminal. By the way, the retractable dome on Safeco Field is totally rad. OK, onto the ferry. I probably hadn't been on a ferry in about twenty years, and this was totally cool. Ferries are the only way to travel. Pretty fast, you can hang out in the open air and read or whatever, smells like the ocean, no downside. I couldn't understand the people I would see on the ferries who just stayed in their cars for the ride. WTF is that all about? At least sit upstairs and get some air! Losers.

So I get to Bainbridge Island and head to mom and dad's place. Like I said earlier, the drive was beautiful. There are lots of pictures below. Its about an hour and a half and I'd say I didn't mind it at all. The only bummer was that the car I rented only had an AM radio, so I ended up listening to sports radio. All Mariners, all the time. I lost Seattle radio towards the end and then I listened to some Vancouver news station.

The only truly noteworthy part of the trip was when I stopped and visited a small Indian casino along the way. They had some cheap blackjack with decent rules and I was sorely tempted to play a few hands, but I know from experience how easy it is for "play a few hands" to become "hang out at the table for a few hours" so I told myself I would stop on the way out of town.

FInally I arrived at my parent's house where I spent the rest of the night just chilling out and being mellow.

Go Mariners!

I always wondered why trees grow like this all naked at the bottom, but its totally cool.
